Olympic Weightlifting, Rowing, and Krypton Factor

Olympic Weightlifting

2008 saw us win our first weightifting titles.  In March, in their first competitions the women of Crossfit Manchester won 5 gold and one silver medal at the British Masters Weightlifting Championships at Lilleshall.  They followed this up later in the year with medals at the Scottish Open Masters in June and then in November were joined by some of the younger Crossfit Manchester lifters in winning divisional medals in the Yorkshire and North-East Open.  At this competition two of our lifters achieved the honour of qualifying for the National Senior competition to be held in February 2009.  Good luck to Fay and Bev!

In 2009 crossfit manchester is seeking to build on the Olympic Weightlifting sucesses of last year.  We will have athletes competing at regional, national and international level in Masters lifting as well as at national level in the Seniors and Under 23s.  To build on this success as a BWLA registered weightilifting club we are introducing regular Olympic Weightlifting Classes to our weekly schedule

English Indoor Rowing Championships

This year we are entering our first teams, and a large number of individual competitiors, in the English Indoor Rowing Championships.  This championship is taking place on 8 February at Manchester Velodrome.  We look forward to our athletes proving their allround fitness at 500m and 2000m races.

Crossfit Manchester Hosts First European Crossfit Certification

The summer of 2008 was busy with preparations for the hosting of the first Crossfit Certification to be held outside of America.  On 13th and 14th September we were host to Crossfit founder Greg Glassman and a team of coaches from Crossfit Headquarters for a weekend of lectures, practicals and workouts. The weekend was a great success with over 80 people in attendance from the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Holland, Germany, Italy, Belgium, and as far afield as South Africa.  Here are the Crossfit Manchester participants with the US Coaches.
